     Ann Lee Wells was born on 21 January 1876 at Freestone County, Texas. She was the daughter of Samuel G. Wells and Lettie Mariah Garner.1,2 She married Newell Luther Richardson Sr., son of John Whitney Richardson and Mary Louise Cobbs, on 28 February 1894 at Freestone County, Texas.3 She appeared on the census of 12 June 1900 at Freestone County, Texas.2 She died on 19 October 1900 at Freestone County, Texas, at age 24. She was buried on 20 October 1900 at Freestone County, Texas.4 Mr. Luthur Richardson, living about nine miles east of Fairfield, had the misfortune to lose his wife last Friday. She had been ill a few days with malarial fever, which brought on pneumonia and she soon died. The deceased had been in bad health for some months. She was about thirty years old, and besides an aged mother and husband, left behind three little children to mourn her loss. Mrs. Richardson was the youngest child of the late Samuel G. Wells, a well known citizen of this county. The RECORDER tenders sincere sympathy to the deeply breaved family.5

Samuel G. Wells

M, b. 7 July 1811, d. 8 February 1887
     Samuel G. Wells was born on 7 July 1811 at Kentucky.1 He married Phebe Parker, daughter of Elder Daniel Parker and Martha Dickerson, on 15 May 1834 at USA.1 He was was also a member of Captain William Turner Sadler's Mounted Rangers between 1 January 1836 and 16 March 1836 at the area now known as, Anderson County, Texas.2,3 He began military service on 4 June 1836 at San Augustine County, Texas. He ended military service on 4 September 1836 at San Augustine County, Texas. He was elected Justice of the Peace of Precinct No. 6 on 24 September 1842 at Houston County, Texas.4 He was comissioned as JP on 11 April 1843 and resigned on 18 Mar 1844.4 He was was shown on the state tax rolls as having two slaves and 1390 acres of land in 1846 at Texas.5 He was was authorized by the Legislature of the new State of Texas to order an election for Commisioners for the newly formed county of Anderson on 24 March 1846 at Texas.6,7 Was appointed Sheriff of Anderson County on 18 January 1847 to replace Peyton Parker who had resigned. Samuel served until 7 August 1848.8 He petitioned the State of Texas to reimburse in land the cost of a horse lost in service to the Republic of Texas in 1853 at Texas.9 He was registered to vote on 26 September 1867 at Freestone County, Texas.10 He married Lettie Mariah Garner, daughter of Unknown Garner, in 1874.1 He died on 8 February 1887 at Freestone County, Texas, at age 75.11 He was buried after 8 February 1887 at Freestone County, Texas.11 "DIED- At his residence, eight miles east of Fairfield, on Tuesday morning, Feburary 8th, 1887, of pneumonia, Mr. Samuel G. Wells, aged about 73.

Mr. Wells, like a good many of our old pioneer citizens, came to Texas from Tennessee. He became a citizen of the State about 40 years ago, settling first in Eastern Texas. In early life he was an energetic stirring man and took an active part in the busy scenes incident to the early settlement of the State. He was a citizen of Anderson County, when it was organized, and was elected its first Sheriff. Mr. Wells was a man of considerable information and was well liked by his neighbors. He had been a resident of the county for many years, having moved here, we think, before the war. He was well known to many of our oldest citizens, who will reget to hear of his death.12

Samuel Horace Wells1

M, b. 25 December 1849
     Samuel Horace Wells was also known as Horace.2 He was born on 25 December 1849 at Todd County, Kentucky, In the 1850 census, Samuel's age is listed as 1, however most biographies/histories list his birth as being 25 Dec 1850. Since his father was the enumerator, as birthdate of 1849 or 1848 is more probable.1 He was the son of William Horace Wells and Mary E. Porter.1 He married Sallie M. Mimms, daughter of William T. Mimms, on 1 June 1881 at Todd County, Kentucky.1

     Sarah Catherine Wells was born on 17 September 1835 at Texas.1 She was the daughter of Samuel G. Wells and Phebe Parker.1 She married Duncan Perry H. Graham on 3 July 1851 at Freestone County, Texas.1,2 She died circa 30 April 1870.
